This is a true depiction of how I have spent my day so far.  Up at 0500 for a 0615 show time for a flight to Bagram.  (With my entourage of 3 assistants.)  Check in at the desk- move ALL our bags.  I have 4 duffle bags, they each have 2 and a rucksack, plus we each have our body armor and kevlar helmets.  It's a LOT of heavy stuff.  Load 'em up and carry 'em in to the terminal.

Wait around.

First flight is cancelled.

BTW- No breakfast, figured we'd get to Bagram in time to eat there.  There was what looked like an entire battalion of Dutch folks there- they had food and took pity on us.  I had an apple and my guys had ham and cheese sandwiches.

SFC Cohen had taken the initiative to prepare certificates of appreciation for the assistants who supported us here.  As long as we were still in town, he and I hiked back to the chapel annex to present them in person.  While we were there, learned that SSG Burns was to stay here- loaded his stuff back up and he headed back.

We waited some more- SFC Cohen made a DFAC run to pick up some food for us.  We got word to move the bags closer to the flight line.  SPC T.  (our adopted child) and I moved the whole pile.

Second flight is cancelled.  Call Bagram with the word- show time 0900 tomorrow- try again.  Called our friends here to ask them to come pick us up again.  Moved all the bags BACK to the chapel annex.  Arrived back here shortly after noon.

Just finished an excellent lunch at the British DFAC- yummy chickpeas and rice, marinated veggies with feta cheese and cabbage salad.  The USO show is at 1600 and SFC Cohen is already there so that he can secure a seat.  We're meeting back for dinner at 1830.  I have no desire to be in a big crowd listening to a lot of noise.

But here's the challenge of this environment- I'd kind of like to go to the gym, but I ONLY have 4 hours and I'm seriously uncertain as to whether that's enough time.  A trip to the gym involves:

Figure out which duffle bag has the PT clothes.
Change- but keep the boots on to walk over there in the mud.
Put on sneakers- work out.
Put the muddy boots back on and walk back to the chapel annex.
Collect up all my shower stuff and clean clothes and walk to the shower.
Shower and change.

I think I'm gonna give it a try, but I also think that it will be tight!

Funny sign of the day- SFC Cohen got a snapshot which I hope he'll share- tank driving by with a big yellow sign on the front and back- Student Driver.  You can't pay for entertainment like this!!!

Lesson learned for the day- British COL we sat with at lunch who told us that the only things you need in life are a mug, a spoon (with edge sharpened), a toothbrush and a sleeping bag.

Think about it. . . .
