Plan changed slightly. We got the word that the cigars here are much better than those in Bagram. Since I smoked my last one today, we went to the Dutch PX and I restocked my supply.
The big score of the day was at the American PX. The Army Physical Fitness Uniform is composed of- a long sleeved shirt, a short sleeved shirt, shorts, jacket and pants. Being from AZ, all I have ever owned is shorts and short sleeved shirt. Figured I'd buy the jacket and pants at Ft. Benning, where they were out of my size. Found them today, and put the jacket to good use walking back from the gym. It's my new favorite thing.
The gang is all at the USO show- I had no desire to wait in line, (done ENOUGH of that, thank you!), and hear the noise. They'll share their photos with me, I'm sure. It will be challenging enough to figure out the shower thing next, and then maybe try one of those new Dutch cigars.
Show started late so they're planning to hit the 2330 breakfast meal, which they also enjoyed the night we came in. I'm not sure if I'll go to the DFAC at all, still full from my late lunch.
Moment of the day- Walked out of the building this a.m. to go to the latrine and wash up. The sun was just coming over the horizon, and I was spontaneously moved to begin singing Ma Tovu. Translation- how beautiful are your tents. I didn't get too far into it before the irony cracked me up!
A BIG thanks to my amazing sister in law Fran who agreed to post these missives for me. Thanks Frannie.
Who's laying odds on our getting to Bagram tomorrow???????
